The importance of the One Health Approach in tackling Epidemics and Pandemics

The appearance of emerging and re-emerging zoonotic diseases is associated with multiple drivers, some of which can be related to anthropogenic activities such as land use change and climate change. Understanding drivers and processes associated with emerging and re-emerging zoonotic diseases is essential to prevent future disease outbreaks and anticipate related risks.

Preventing epidemics and pandemics requires a One Health risk reduction approach, the understanding of characteristics and behaviour of wildlife, domestic animals, pathogens and disease drivers, and One Health surveillance and control measures.
