Description
Volume 38 (3) of the Scientific and Technical Review contains 19 articles submitted by experts from around the world on a variety of topics. This issue, varied in content, contributes to updating the current understanding of numerous animal diseases that have significant zoonotic and economic impacts. The spectrum of topics presented in the issue extends around the world and relates to numerous species, from captive blue-fronted Amazon parrots (Amazona aestiva) to buffalo through to bees, poultry, and domestic and free-roaming dogs. Highly important diseases such as foot and mouth disease, contagious agalactia and atypical theileriosis are also well documented and the epidemiology of others such as equine influenza and Piscirickettsia salmonis and the highly topical African swine fever are also examined. In addition, this issue covers the screening and quantification of antibiotic residues in broiler chicken meat and milk, good farming practices in apiculture, the welfare status of free-roaming dogs and the proposed use of plastinated macroparasites as an alternative resource in practical lessons. The annual multi-topic issue of the Review is a unique medium through which to disseminate reports on the situation and management of animal diseases worldwide, particularly with regard to countries where the animal health situation is rarely addressed in scientific publications.
