Simulation exercise: Avian influenza in Turkey 12

Dr Nihat Pakdil, Deputy Undersecretary, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of Turkey, informed the OIE that a joint real-scale simulation exercise on avian influenza will take place in Ordu province from 9 to 13 April 2018.

The overall aim of this exercise is to maintain the response skills of the Veterinary Services. The simulation will include table-top and field exercises which will be held in Comlecki village.

The specific objectives are to:

• test the Avian Influenza Contingency Plan and train staff on its implementation;
•  test operational response arrangements;
•  examine the liaison and interdependencies between the key operational partners; and
•  consider the impact of the disease as a zoonotic infection
