Simulation exercise: Avian influenza in Turkey 5

Prof. Dr Irfan Erol, Director General of Food and Control, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock of Turkey, informed the OIE that joint real-scale simulation exercises on avian influenza will take place in Kavacik village, province of Çorum from 5 to 8 October 2015 and in Gürbulak village, province of Trabzon from 19 to 22 October 2015, respectively.

The simulation exercises will include table-top and field exercises.

The specific objectives are to:

• test the Avian Influenza Contingency Plan and train staff on its implementation;
• test operational response arrangements;
• examine the liaison and interdependencies between the key operational partners; and
• consider the impact of the disease as a zoonotic infection.
