Simulation exercise: Foot and mouth disease in Austria

Dr Ulrich Herzog, Chief Veterinary Officer, Austrian Federal Ministry of Health, Vienna, informed the OIE that a third real-time simulation exercise on foot and mouth disease (PICORNA 14) will take place from 23 to 27 June 2014.

The main goals of this exercise are:

• testing new functions of the Austrian database, Consumer Health Information System (VIS, Verbrauchergesundheitsinformationssystem),

• handling at-risk holdings,

• planning resources (personal and equipment) in order to evaluate the Austrian contingency plans.

A final report on this exercise will be sent to the European Commission in September 2014.
