Dr Samat Tyulegenov, Delegate to WOAH and Deputy Chairman of the Committee for Veterinary Control and Surveillance of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan, informed WOAH that the veterinary service of the Republic of Kazakhstan will conduct a simulation exercise on Foot and mouth disease. This activity will take place from 26 to 28 October 2022 in Novoivanovka village, Taiynsha District, North Kazakhstan region.
This simulation exercise will include the theoretical and practical training of personnel from the Regional and Central Veterinary Administrations.
The exercise aims to:
- Identify the strengths and weaknesses of the existing Contingency plan for Foot and mouth disease;
- Test and evaluate practical implementation of control measures in case of suspicion of a Foot and mouth disease outbreak;
- Test the capacity to respond to a potential occurrence of the disease.
It will allow to assess the ability of staff to carry out fieldwork and to respond to Foot and mouth disease outbreaks, as part of the activities of the Contingency plan; to evaluate the ability of field staff to carry out clinical examinations and epidemiological surveys; to collect and package samples for laboratory examination.
