Simulation exercise: Foot and mouth disease in Serbia

Dr Miloš Petrovič, Delegate to WOAH and Acting Director of the Veterinary Directorate of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management of Serbia, informed WOAH that a simulation exercise for foot and mouth disease will take place from 22 to 31 May 2023 in the Republic of Serbia.
The simulation exercise is prepared and organized by the Veterinary Directorate of Serbia, with the technical and operational support of the European Commission for the Control of Foot-and-Mouth Disease (EuFMD).
The simulation exercise aims to:
- put into practice and test biosecurity protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs) relevant to the exercise’s objectives;
- improve emergency preparedness, response, and control systems for FMD;
- enhance cooperation and collaboration between different regions in the country;
- test and assess SOPs, simulating their execution after suspicion of an FMD outbreak in a medium size cattle farm, evaluate their appropriateness, and provide opportunities for further improvement.
