Dr John Clifford, Deputy Administrator, Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) of the United States Department of Agriculture, Washington D.C., informed the OIE that a simulation exercise on foot and mouth disease (FMD) is taking place in the United States of America, from 26 to 28 June 2012.
This simulation exercise will begin on day 7 of unintentional FMD multi-state outbreaks in the United States.
The objectives of this exercise are the following:
- clarify the roles and responsibilities within APHIS, USDA, and the Federal interagency partners in support of a widespread or National FMD outbreaks,
- identify support needed to address gaps in resources that will be required to implement plans and procedures, and
- improve individual and team performance.
