Dr Miguel Angel Depaz, Director of Animal Health, Belize Agricultural Health Authority (BAHA), Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, informed the OIE that a field simulation exercise on white spot disease and an emerging aquatic disease [Acute hepatopancreatic necrosis disease (AHPND)] will take place on 23 October 2014 in the town of Placencia, Stann Creek District, Belize.
The objectives of exercise code-named “Cocoplum” are to:
- assess the OIRSA* APHND procedural manual to prepare a Belize manual;
- assess and strengthen BAHA’s coordinated first response to confirmation of emerging and exotic aquatic animal disease.
Exercise “Cocoplum” will be conducted with the support of the Inter-American Development Bank.
Participants will include officers from government and representatives of the industry.
