The World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH – founded as OIE) is a leading intergovernmental organisation representing 183 Members worldwide. Through its activities, WOAH makes a decisive contribution to improving animal health, protecting animal welfare and strengthening Veterinary Services. The Organisation provides transparent information on world’s animal health situation, and promotes international standards, particularly in terms of the safety of trade in live animals and animal products. WOAH’s headquarters are based in Paris. The Organisation is present on every continent through 13 Regional or Sub-regional Representations. WOAH has 250 staff members, two-thirds of whom are based at headquarters. This position is located in WOAH Sub-Regional Representation in Brussels. WOAH Europe region as 53 Members, the permanent relationship with those Members and WOAH activities in the region are manage by 3 offices. Job Description
Positioning and reporting

Under the Authority of WOAH Director General and the direct supervision of WOAH Sub-Regional Representative in Brussels and in close collaboration with WOAH Headquarters.
Job purpose

The Communication Officer work will focus on developing a communication strategy and the related tools for the Platform on Animal Welfare for Europe. The strategy will need to be in line with the Action Plan of the Platform, the Brand strategy of WOAH and with WOAH Seven Strategic Plan. The development of this strategy will require a close collaboration with relevant SRR Brussels colleagues and with relevant departments in WOAH headquarters. The Communication Officer will be also provide  support to the communication activities of Brussels office.  
Missions and activities Development of a communication strategy for the Platform on Animal Welfare for Europe

– Deliver a communication strategy adapted to the ongoing 4th Action Plan, its 5 priority topics (transport of animals , animal welfare during slaughter, dog population management, animal welfare during natural disasters and welfare of working equids) and the means available (staff and financial resources);
– The communication strategy will be develop using the report of the consultant that evaluated the communication strategy of the Platform;
– The communication strategy needs to be develop in collaboration with the relevant WOAH regional and HQ colleagues and with WOAH Europe Members;
– The communication strategy needs to be in line with WOAH Seven Strategic Plan and WOAH Brand strategy.  

Develop the tools that will support the implementation of the communication strategy

– Develop templates for the tools to be used to implement the strategy (e.g. poster, newsletters, article, X (ex-Twitter) );
– The tools develop needs to have a coherent approach in between them and needs to be in line with WOAH Brand strategy.  

Contribute actively to the SRR-Brussels Communication activities

– Develop and maintain the content of the WOAH Europe website and X (ex-Twitter) updated for SRR Brussels office activities;
– Provide inputs for publication materials, both internal and hosted by partners;
– Assist in preparing SRR-Brussels different communications (annual reports, articles, ….).  

Perform other duties as determined by the WOAH sub-regional Representative.
Requirements
Qualifications and Experience 

– Under or graduate degree in communication or other related area.
– At least 3 years of successful professional experience.

Requirements  
Technical skills

– High fluency in written and spoken English is a critical requirement; other languages are regarded as an asset;
– Proven writing, proofreading and editing skills in English;
– Computer literacy in a Microsoft environment (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook) is essential;
– Ability to write in a clear and concise manner and to communicate effectively;
– Ability to manage processes and maintain accurate records;
– Familiarity with graphic design and WordPress backend is a plus;
– Familiarity with website and social media performance metrics is a plus.

Personal and Interpersonal skills

– Autonomy and ability to work independently, with initiative capacities;
– Effective organisational skills and ability to handle work in an efficient and timely manner;
– Ability to coordinate tasks to meet deadlines;
– Good interpersonal skills;
– Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity;
– Ability to develop and maintain effective work relationships with counterparts.  
Additional Information
Working conditions

– Salary: commensurate with qualifications and experience.
– Type of contract: WOAH Staff – Fixed-term contract.
– Duration: One (1) year contract.
– Location: WOAH Sub-Regional Representation in Brussels – Boulevard du Jardin Botanique, 55 – 1000 Brussels – Belgium.

The post is a full-time position based at the WOAH Sub-Regional Representation in Brussels and requires long hours in a seated position at a computer. It can entail missions abroad.
