The Second OIE Global Conference on Animal Welfare has the goal of supporting the worldwide implementation of OIE standards for sea and land transport of livestock, livestock slaughter for human consumption and killing for disease control. the Conference also aims to raise the profile of animal welfare and to encourage veterinarians and Veterinary Services to take greater responsibility for animal welfare. |

The conference will examine a series of related key topics in multiple sessions: |

Raise awareness of the OIE Animal Welfare Standards |
|
Give practical information and technical advice on setting national standards, including legislation to support the implementation of standards |
|
Encourage national Veterinary Services to take responsibility for animal welfare |
|
Help Veterinary Services, especially those in developing countries, to put the OIE standards to work |
|
Strengthen approaches to teaching of Animal Welfare in veterinary and agriculture faculties |
|
Launch a discussion on additional standard-setting needs and achievements |
|
Discuss and define research priorities to support standard setting and implementation |
